Is it Time to Serve?
by: MARY ROSE FUERTE (January - May 2011)
B-U-S-Y, a four-letter word that is used, reused, misused, overused and the worst is abused by most people. How do we define a busy life? The term “busy” suggests active or sustained effort to accomplish something. It sounds restless and actively engaged to the outside world. It never seems to find a reason to stop.
People often find themselves busy with life. A student would probably say, “My class schedule won’t permit me” or to a hardworking professional, “I’m already stressed at work”, and for some, “I’m too preoccupied right now!” Come to think of it. There are 12 months, 365 days and 525,600 minutes in a year. Each day opens an opportunity, each moment is a gift of unique single encounter with the Lord. We find time to go to spa for a massage to release our tension, but did we consider going to church and find rest in God’s dwelling place? We take vacation leave and spend our savings for an out of town or even out of the country escapades, but did we try including God in our itinerary?
God offers us one of a kind love - a love as unlimited as a call or a text, as open as a 24/7 convenience store and as nonstop as a broadcasting network. Yes, he is a busy God. He is busy looking after the student who has conflict in his schedule, a career person who feels stressed at work and his flock who is preoccupied with so many things. God is indeed busy loving His children. It is cliché to say that it’s impossible to turn back the hands of time and that it can never be replaced. But do we make time precious by using it wisely and meaningfully? It is never too late. Make your time significant by offering it in the service of the Lord. Joining a choir, commentators and lectors ministry, dance or writers group can make a difference in your life. It guarantees stress- free life with an extra special relationship with the Lord. You become a person for others and God’s instrument of love and kindness. Real service is not finding the right time for the Lord but making the time right for Him.
Again I ask, “Are you still busy? Or do you have time for the Lord?”
