According to Peter Graff of Reuters.com, the pope will continue in office until 1900 GMT on February 28 before stepping down to allow the election of a new pope. Pope Benedict XVI was elected to papacy last April 2005 and due to his health condition, he can no longer have the strength to lead the entire catholic church. Before we witness the search for the next pope, here are some facts about Benedict XVI, our pope for almost 8 years: 1. Pope Benedict XVI was born Joseph Alois Ratzinger on April 16, 1927. 2. He is the first pope to use the twitter to get in touch to billions of catholic. A smart move since social media sites are hit today and people have no time for traditional newspaper, magazine, and television to witness his message. Here's the screen grab of his first tweet: 3. He is the 15th pope named Benedict. He chose the pontifical name Benedict in honor of Pope Benedict XV and St.Benedict of Nursia. Benedict comes from the Latin word which means "the blessed." 4. He is the first pope to own an iPod! 5. He is the oldest pope to be elected at the age of 78 since Clement XII in 1730. 6. He was a United States' prisoner of war during the World War II. 7. He has 6 email addresses which differ according to language. His English email address is [email protected]. 8. Speaking of language, Pope Benedict XVI can speak fluent English, Italian, French, and Spanish, aside from his mother-tongue which is German. 9. He plays the piano for half an hour each night and most of it includes Mozart's and Bach's. 10. Pope Benedict XVI has a pilot's license but doesn't have a driver's license. He doesn't know how to drive a car. The driving lessons in Germany during his younger times costs much so decided to walk or commute. source: (Pope Benedict XVI) Wikipedia, 12 February 2013 "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Benedict_XVI"; Pullella, Philip (Pope Benedict to resign, says no longer has strength to fulfill ministry) Yahoo! RA Staff after the workshop. (PHOTO by: Cypress Dublin) We are the staff of the official newsletter of the Maria Reyna ng mga Apostoles Parish in Barangay Pinagsama, Taguig City. Tomorrow, we will launch the 3rd issue of the RA (Regina Apostolorum) Newsletter. It was last year when we set up a quite impossible project but now, we are now officially one year! Through the help of God and Mary, the task was absolutely successful. There were people who helped us along the way, we may not mention their names but we know that while reading this blog, they can say that they've been a big part of the RA Newsletter. RA Newsletter will never be a reality without the help of the staff, our contributors, pledgers, servers, parishioners, and most especially our advisers and Fr. Betbet. 2012. As we mark our 1st anniversary, the newsletter evolved when in comes to layout, content, and the staff. News faces came and some go, but still, our goal to serve God will forever continue. Tomorrow, Sunday, July 8, will be the new Regina Apostolorum Newsletter. THE BIG NEWS! RA Newsletter is now online! Yes, you can keep it touch with us through facebook, twitter and this website.
